The French Fighter Squadron 2/30 Normandie-Niemen was the only unit of the Western Allies that fought on the Eastern Front. This is military cooperation played a key role in the development of political relations between the leadership of the «Fighting France» movement and the USSR. Few people know that largely thanks to this factor, France, which suffered defeat, capitulation, occupation and collaboration with the Nazi regime at the beginning of the World War II, emerged at its end as one of the victors and regained its place among the great powers.
One of the subdivisions of French 118th Air Base in Mont-de-Marsan, still bears the name of Régiment de chasse 2/30 Normandie-Niémen – https://www.facebook.com/RC2.30NormandieNiemen
